When Iris started out in life, she was in a series of abusive and neglectful homes. She was not fed proper cat food, but rather, human food, and likely was not fed regularly, either. But thankfully, she was rescued by Kaiti L. three years ago and was given a proper home—a loving home with two children, three other rescued animals, and a few small-rodent rescues, as well! You might just say that Kaiti's heart is huge.
When Iris was first rescued, she was terrified of people and other animals; she would become violent if anyone came near her. However, with the love Kaiti and her family have shown her, Iris has not merely warmed up to pets and people alike, but she has truly blossomed, even giving kisses. Notes Kaiti, "She has given us so much and taught our family how valuable love and patience can truly be."
Unfortunately, Iris was diagnosed with stomatitis, an inflammation of the mouth and gums, which is very painful to her—she tends now to avoid food, as it hurts to eat. And when she does eat, she tries to swallow the soft food that Kaiti gives her in one fell swoop, without chewing. Worse, her teeth are rotting and infection is rampant; if this condition is not treated, she could die from lack of eating. She is currently being treated at Mother Lode Veterinary Hospital by Dr. Tim Van Geem, who determined that the best course of action is to have all her teeth removed. Kaiti laments, "If Iris does not get all her teeth pulled the disease will kill her... the infection itself will go into her jaw bone or bloodstream and kill her."
Despite this, Iris is a spunky kitty, who loves catching bugs out of the air, always getting them on the first shot! She is a loving little girl, too, always eager to snuggle. Kaiti and her family are desperate to help her—as Iris has come so far, and this is something that is entirely treatable—only the high price tag is the roadblock. Kaiti just had a baby and is eager to get back to work, but right now the family is without that paycheck, and so they all are hoping for "extra" help.
Iris cannot chew right now, but YOU can! Can you help take a bite out of her oral surgery bill and contribute to her campaign? Every little bit—or every little bite!—can help!!
